Aurangabad: Around 22 lakh trucks from the state would remain off road from Friday as part of the country-wide indefinite strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).The protest has been called to press for their long-pending demands and as per AIMTC around 95 lakh heavy vehicles from across India will take part in the protest.Bal Malkit Singh, AIMTC’s chairman, on Tuesday said that reduction in diesel prices through reduction in central & state taxes by bringing it under GST, uniform pricing nationally and its quarterly revision would help in fuelling the economy of the road transport sector.Opposing the setting up of toll plazas every few kilometres, the AIMTC has stated that they are not against toll revenue but against toll collection methodology which is flawed, non-transparent and tweaked in favour of the concessionaires resulting in colossal loss of about Rs 1,50,000 crores because of fuel wastage and delays as against collection of about Rs 20,000 crore annually.Aurangabad Goods Transport Association president Fayyaz Khan said that due to government’s poorly planned policies, the truck owners and transporters have been pushed to the brink of committing suicide.
