Jayakwadi reservoir gets 2.5 TMC water in 24 hours; storage up to 22%

AURANGABAD: Good rain in catchment areas coupled with release of water from upstream areas has resulted in Jayakwadi Dam getting additional 2.5 TMC water in the past nearly 24 hours, by Wednesday evening.The dam was showing 22.13% live storage with water level expected to go up further gradually, owing to release of water from upstream areas.According to the Flood Control Cell of Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation (GMIDC), the major irrigation project was receiving inflow of 27,500 cusec from Nagamthan River Gauging Station and 12,620 cusec from Nandur-Madhameshwar Weir. The Darna Dam discharged at the speed of 1,100 cusec and Gangapur Dam 2,096 cusec, and this water too was released into Jayakwadi Dam.The cumulative effective inflow at Jayakwadi was recorded as 27,150 cusec by 4 pm on Wednesday. With good rainfall last year, the dam was filled to the brim last year, following which it discharged water from designated canals.Among other major irrigation projects, Manjra Dam has improved live storage of nearly 6%, Majalgaon 2.44%, Lower Terna 42.8% and Lower Dudhna 15.17%. Sidhheshwar and Yeldari are among key projects from the region which are still showing dead storage.Total 44 large projects from the region have been showing 19% live storage, which was somewhat similar to storage available last year (18.5%). As far as the 81 medium irrigation projects from Marathwada are concerned, these reservoirs have been showing 20% live storage, whereas 832 minor projects were showing nearly 19% live stock. These categories of storages were showing 17% and 13% live storage, respectively, official data show.Meanwhile, city and nearby areas along with parts of Marathwada did not report any major rainfall activity till Wednesday evening. The gap in rainfall after two consecutive days of rain helped farmers to undertake agricultural activities. Aurangabad reported maximum of 26.5 degree Celsius and minimum of 21.2 degree Celsius temperature on Wednesday, with temperature limits showing negative deviation of 3 degree Celsius and 1 degree Celsius, respectively.
