Govt hospital gets nod for mother-child health wing

The NHM engineer said the facility can be expanded to 300 beds considering the space allotted.“The primary design of the project was finalised after discussions with the dean last week and the same will be scrutinised by Archana Patil, additional director of health services, state family welfare bureau, and the PWD chief director,” said the NHM engineer.Hospital dean Yelikar said the project is to be completed in 18 months and that it may take a maximum of two years. The total construction will be 15,031.81 square metre, including ground floor parking.The building will accommodate the departments of OBGY, neonatal, neonatal ICU and special newborn care unit.The head of department of OBGY, Srinivas Gadappa, said that as per the NHM’s Lakshya programme, the MCH wing will have updated facilities, under which respectful maternity care can be facilitated.“It will be built over ample space so that patients privacy is maintained; there will be separate space for caregivers accompanying patients, upgraded labour rooms or delivery care units, four staircases, a lift and a ramp and counselling rooms among other things,” said Gadappa.The hospital had initially proposed a 300-bed facility. Aurangabad: In a major boost, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has received the approval of National Health Mission (NHM) for a 200-bed seven-floor wing for the obstetrics & gynaecology (OBGY) and neonatal services.“The NHM has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the project as a token amount,” Sanjeev Kumar, mission director (NHM), told TOI on Friday.The GMCH dean, Kanan Yelikar, had proposed the project to the Centre through the state government considering the high load of obstetrics and neonatal patients.The hospital had recorded more than 20,000 child births in 2017 and continues to cater to patients from Marathwada, Ahmednagar, Nashik and Jalgaon.Yelikar said that while other districts, which have got the mother and child health (MCH) wing, have been given approval for 100-bed facility and Rs 20 crore budget, Aurangabad has got an approval for a 200-bed facility with Rs a 38.65-crore budget.A senior engineer at NHM said the building will be constructed on one lakh sq ft land on the premises of the GMCH by demolishing two wards 5 and 6.
