Auric shows the way in pipeline work as civic body still gropes in the dark

Aurangabad: While the parallel pipeline project of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has not been materialised even 11 years after it was proposed, the Aurangabad Industrial City (Auric) under the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) has its 54-km pipeline and water supply system almost ready within three years of initiating the project. The work is being done by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).Auric, which is a greenfield industrial smart city, is planned on around 10,000 acre in Shendra and Bidkin. The MIDC has 51% share, while DMIC has 49% share in the project.With many industrial projects coming up at the location, the infrastructural works have gathered pace. MIDC executive engineer Ravindra Kulkarni said the work of the pipeline is 90% completed. “We are awaiting permission from the railways for laying pipeline over the railway crossing. From the plant, the pipeline is raised 4 km uphill to the elevated storage reservoir from where water will be flown to Shendra through a 14-km pipeline.Shendra DMIC also has an underground storage reservoir with a capacity of 20 MLD which will hold potable water.Maheish Shinde Patil of the Aurangabad Industrial Township Ltd,which manages the Auric, said the work of treatment plant and the ESR is complete.The project cost for the 54-km pipeline was Rs 192 crore but the MIDC could complete the project in 17.5% less expense at Rs 156 crore.Civic activist Rahul Ingle said the pace and transparency with which the pipeline work has been done were commendable. “The city is struggling for daily water and it is important that political parties running the AMC learn from this project.”
