Aurangabad: City police claimed they foiled at least five attempts at rioting during the state-wide bandh called by the Maratha community to demand reservation on August 9. Crime branch inspector Madhukar Sawant, interacting with newspersons on Monday, said miscreants discreetly mingled with protestors and started giving the agitation a violent turn. This happened in at least five different spots, he said.“The miscreants projected themselves as participants in the Maratha reservation protest, but had other plans,” the police officer said, adding that the foiled attempts occurred at Jatwada Road in Harsul, Ambedkarnagar on Jalgaon Road, Central Naka, Ajabnagar and Patoda, under the Satara police station jurisdiction. All these attempts occurred just as the protestors were beginning to wind up their activity, he said.At Patoda, the organizer directed his supporters to stand up for the national anthem and concluded his movement. By that time, miscreants pelted buses and private vehicles with stones. In other places, police rushed to the spot and forced the unruly mob to disperse, thwarting the attempt to foment a riot, the police officer said.
