Heavy rain on the cards in Marathwada today: Expert

Chances of heavy to very heavy rain are likely in parts of Marathwada for the next 24 hours, according to weather experts.Earlier, the city witnessed cloudy skies since the morning. AURANGABAD: City and parts of Marathwada received light to medium showers on Monday. The minimum temperature was well within the normal range, according to official IMD data. Heavy downpour started in many areas around 2.30 pm.

Chances of heavy to very heavy rain are likely in parts of Marathwada for the next 24 hours, according to weather experts.Earlier, the city witnessed cloudy skies since the morning. Heavy downpour started in many areas around 2.30 pm. The rainfall lasted for almost an hour before turning into an intermittent drizzle.The amount of rainfall received was not available immediately, as official details about the circle-wise rainfall received are made available by the next morning.The Chikalthan observatory of India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded no rainfall till 5.30 pm.Director of APJ Abdul Kalam Astro Space and Science Centre Shriniwas Aundhkar said parts of Marathwada along with a few other parts of Maharashtra could witness heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours."Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded and Osmanabad from Marathwada could witness heavy showers. As per satellite images, a low pressure area has formed over southern Vidarbha, which is moving towards west and could produce heavy rains," Aundhkar said.As per official record, Aurangabad district, comprising nine talukas has received 289 mm rainfall so far, which accounts for 71% expected showers and 43% average annual rainfall received from June to October.Meanwhile, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 23 degrees celsius and a minimum of 21 degrees celsius on Monday.The maximum temperature was below normal by 6 degrees celsius, which was attributed to rainy conditions. The minimum temperature was well within the normal range, according to official IMD data.
