Aurangabad: The work on developing a rose garden near Maulana Azad Research Centre has gathered pace in the past few weeks.In 2013, then municipal commissioner Harshdeep Kamble had announced that the rose garden will be developed over a 4-acre land with a fund of Rs 8 crore from the central government’s ministry of tourism. It was decided that the garden would be developed in such a way that the aerial view of the garden would look like a giant rose.The work had taken a backseat due to other priorities of the municipal corporation. However, the AMC resumed the work a couple months ago.Vijay Patil, garden superintendent of the municipal corporation said the work was divided into civil, electrical and horticultural works.The civil and electrical works are completed 60% to 70%. As far as horticultural works are concerned, the saplings and soil are yet to be brought.Patil said he has recently received the charge of the work from AMC executive engineer Sikander Ali.The garden would have a fountain and artificial stream.The work is going on in a fast pace, Patil said.The project is part of the central government’s plan to develop tourist circuits in the country. The tourism ministry had identified 53 destinations across the country in 2012.Despite Aurangabad’s tourism relevance, however, all the 104 gardens in the city are in a deplorable shape with broken lights, gates, walls, swings and unrestrained growth of weeds.
