Man gets life term forkilling wife, daughter

Aurangabad: Nanded principal district and sessions judge Sudheer Kulkarni on Tuesday sentenced a man to two life imprisonments for murdering his wife and daughter. “The court sentenced Dhavale to double life imprisonment, which will run concurrently,” he added. His mother-in-law left the place in a huff soon after he abused her.The convict’s wife and daughter objected to his rude behaviour with the mother-in-law. Police subsequently added Section 302 (murder) against Dhavale.Police sub-inspector Parshuram Warade, who investigated the case and submitted the chargesheet, said the prosecution examined 11 witnesses. Police as well as the special executive magistrate had recorded their their statements.

The sentences will run concurrently.The convict, Ratan Chandu Dhavale, killed his wife Gangasagar (35) and daughter Chaitanya (10) over a petty issue at his residence in the Hudco area of Nanded in April 2015.Government pleader D G Shinde said on Wednesday that it all started with Dhavale’s mother-in-law, Annapurna, visiting his home around 4.30 pm on the fateful day.Annapurna wanted to take her daughter Gangasagar (35) and granddaughter Chaitanya (10) with her to participate in the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations.Dhavale, who was in an inebriated condition, questioned his wife as to why her mother visits them every now and then. His mother-in-law left the place in a huff soon after he abused her.The convict’s wife and daughter objected to his rude behaviour with the mother-in-law. In a fit of rage, Dhavale assaulted the woman and the child before pouring kerosene on them and setting them alight.After a while, Dhavale tried to douse the flames by pouring water on the victims. Gangasagar had already sustained 70% burns and Chaitanya 60% by then.The woman and child were rushed to the government hospital, where police recorded Chaitanya’s statement and arrested Dhavale under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder).Gangagasar and Chaitanya succumbed to the burns on April 15 and 20 respectively. Police as well as the special executive magistrate had recorded their their statements.
