Transport rates push up fuel prices in Marathwada

At Nanded, petrol was the costliest in the country at Rs 92.29 while diesel was available for Rs 79.87, according to the website of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd.Petrol pump owners said the fuel has to travel long distance to their units. Nanded and other surrounding districts get its supply from Solapur, which is 280km away, or from Manmad, which is 376km away.Residents living near the Omerga MIDC area in Osmanabad district were paying Rs 76.25 for a litre of petrol and Rs 63.95 for diesel on Tuesday at the petrol pump belonging to the IOC. The cost of one litre of petrol in Pune was Rs 89.40 and Rs 89.83 in Kolhapur.IOC field officer in Nanded, Rajesh Khaparde, said the fuel price is the same everywhere but transportation and toll charges raise the cost at the time of delivery.“We get a price alert from the company officials and make changes in the machines daily. The government may bring down fuel prices a little before the elections so that they get support,” he said.Arun Ingewar, who runs an HPCL pump in Nanded, said the petroleum companies provide a selling price rate to the pump owners, who get a fixed Rs 1.60 and Rs 1.90 per litre for petrol and diesel respectively. “The cost of fuel differs even within the same district due to the varying transportation charges,” he said.
