Parbhani labourers to agitate for housing

Aurangabad: Labourers in rural parts of Parbhani will launch an agitation on September 25 demanding that the government provide housing facilities in proportion to their population. He said that the state government has earmarked only 11,778 houses for families of labourers in rural areas of Parbhani. Officials concerned should provide housing facilities to all beneficiaries. Whereas under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (rural) the government has earmarked a target of 1,33,992 houses in Amravati. They claim at least 1,40,000 houses should have been provided to them as the labour population in Parbhani accounts for more than 5 lakh.Rajan Kshirsagar, general secretary of Lalbavta Shetmajur Union, is spearheading the agitation.

He said that the state government has earmarked only 11,778 houses for families of labourers in rural areas of Parbhani. Whereas under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (rural) the government has earmarked a target of 1,33,992 houses in Amravati. Similarly, Jalgaon will have 1,14,114 houses, Nandurbar is planned to have 1,56,526 houses, Gondia will have 1,27,706 houses and Nashik will get 1,38,578 houses.Kshirsagar said a target of 12,44,775 houses was set under the scheme, while only 55,695 houses were constructed so far, accounting for just 4 per cent of the target.He added, “The government should make efforts to achieve its target, and increase the number of beneficiaries from 11,778 in Parbhani to at least 1,40,000.”Rajan Kshirsagar said, “We have demanded the authorities meet our demands, otherwise all the workers will take to the streets on September 25. We are making demands to implement 16 various schemes meant for poverty-stricken population. Officials concerned should provide housing facilities to all beneficiaries. He also demanded the governments both at the Centre and state not indulge in discrimination politics while implementing welfare scheme for the people.”He said that the PM had invited some beneficiaries from Parbhani to interact with him on the implementation of housing scheme, but nothing has materialised so far.
