Aurangabad: In wake of frequent disruptions in water supply, the activists and residents have demanded updates through SMS by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). However, the civic body has expressed its inability owing to shortage of manpower and resources.Currently, different areas of the city are being supplied water once in 4 to 7 days. This schedule frequently gets affected due to technical faults at pump house or due to leakages in pipeline and valves. The irregularity in supply causes huge inconvenience to the residents. The households getting water through tap cannot afford to miss the water supply turn as if they fail, they will have to wait for the next 4 to 7 days.Civic activist Rahul Ingle said he had submitted a written request for SMS updates to both former municipal commissioner DM Mugalikar and current municipal commissioner but to no avail.“The AMC has taken the disastrous decision to bring back Aurangabad City Water Utility Company at the cost of people’s welfare. However, until the ambitious project of the AMC is realised, the citizens will continue to suffer due to irregular water supply. The least the AMC can do is to inform people about water supply through SMS,” he said.Responding to the request, executive engineer of water works department said in the current situation of department, this request cannot be fulfilled. “Two years ago, when the water utility company was handling the supply, the SMS update system was initiated. But they had 400 people working on the ground and we have 23 workers. However, the system will be restarted when the company comes back again,” he said.He added that his department informs the corporators about the timing who then pass on the information to the residents. However, in reality only a few corporators take effort to keep the residents informed.
