Mayor assesses preparations

Aurangabad: Ahead of Ganesh immersion on Sunday mayor Nandkumar Ghodele visited the different wells and roads, to assess the preparedness of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).The city witnesses immersion at 13 different places in the city. Before Ganesh festival begins the civic body cleans the wells.This year, the AMC spent Rs 55 lakh to clean the wells before immersion. The poor management had left the corporation red-faced.Subsequently, the mayor directed the staff to complete the work promptly. Then, fresh water is filled into the tanks.The water works department of the city civic body informed that it used around 400 water tankers to fill the wells. He had meetings with officers, about road patchwork, non-functional streetlights and cleaning the wells.During the process, first debris, silt, waste and wastewater is removed from the wells and tanks.

The work was tendered to private contractors.It may be noted, as per tradition, immersion begins one and half days after the ‘Chaturthi’, but no arrangements were made by the AMC to immerse the idols. The poor management had left the corporation red-faced.Subsequently, the mayor directed the staff to complete the work promptly. He had meetings with officers, about road patchwork, non-functional streetlights and cleaning the wells.During the process, first debris, silt, waste and wastewater is removed from the wells and tanks. Then, fresh water is filled into the tanks.The water works department of the city civic body informed that it used around 400 water tankers to fill the wells. The AMC has prepared an artificial pond, near Harsul Lake solely for immersion, at a cost of close to Rs 10 lakh.The idols will be immersed at wells in Aurangapura (ZP Ground), Bhavsingpura, Hudco N-12, Harsul, Chikalthana, Mukundwadi, Santoshi Mata Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Satara, Jalalnagar and Jyotinagar.The work to patch the roads continued till Saturday, the last day before immersion.
