6 held for murder over WhatsApp group spat

Aurangabad: The Harsul police, in a night-long operation on Sunday, have managed to arrest half-a-dozen accused for allegedly stabbing a 34-year-old man to death over a spat in a WhatsApp group.The accused have been identified as Jawed Patel (37), Shaikh Rahim alias Baba Patel (50), Shaikh Patel (21), Amer Patel (20), Taufiq Patel (26) and Saddam Patel (26). The attack was the result of one of such altercations that took place on Sunday. After being produced before a court on Monday they have been remanded in police custody till October 19.A manhunt is also on for the remaining accused named in the complaint lodged by deceased Moin Pathan’s nephew Irfan, who also sustained injuries in the attack in Beribagh area of the city.Senior inspector Maneesh Kalyankar said, “Now as the accused have been arrested, our priority is to ascertain the exact motive, recover the weapons used in the crime and gather all the possible evidences.”Due to delay in the completion of documentation and due process, the autopsy on the deceased was carried out on Monday morning, following which the last rites were performed in the afternoon.The preliminary probe has revealed that for the past several days, Moin and his supporters were being provoked by those belonging to the Patel clan and this used to lead to altercations in the chat group.
