Swine flu claims 3 lives in a single day in city

Nashik: Three patients died of swine flu and 28 tested positive in the city in a single day on Monday.Of the three victims, one was from the city and the other two were from Nashik district. “Seven of the victims were city residents and the remaining 19 hailed from the rural parts of the district.”During the same period, 114 patients tested swine flu positive, including 46 city residents.Total 368 patients were tested positive in the city limits since January this year. This has taken the total number of dengue positive cases to 606 since January 1. Of which, 201 were city residents and the remaining ones were from the rural parts of the district.Of the 54 swine flu deaths in the city since January, 19 patients were city residents, while the remaining 35 were from the rural parts of the district.73 test positive for dengue in 15 daysThe Nashik Municipal Corporation on Monday said 73 people have been tested positive for dengue in the city in the first 15 days of October. All were undergoing treatment in city hospitals.The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials, however, refused to share more details of the deceased as they were in the process of ascertaining the facts.Of the 28 patients tested positive for swine flu on Monday, five were from the city and the rest were from rural parts of the district, NMC officials said.With Monday’s three deaths, the total swine flu toll in the district has increased to 69, including 19 from the city.With cases and deaths related to H1N1 virus continuing to swell, the civic body reiterated its appeal to citizens to take precautions to prevent the disease.The NMC’s health department has appealed to people that they should refrain from going to crowded places, wash their hands and wear clean clothes after reaching home, and immediately approach doctors if they have complaints of cold and cough.The officials have also advised people to consume fruits, juice and water in good quantity.Civic officials said 26 patients succumbed to swine flu in the city so far this month.
