Upset over best friend’s suicide, Maharashtra youth kills medical student his pal dated

Latur superintendent of police Rajendra Mane told TOI, "Our preliminary probe has revealed that on Tuesday, Amar went to Apurva's house and found her alone. "Amar's house is the fourth from Apruva's, due to which nobody suspected his movement in the area," Mane said. The proximity between Apurva and Sarthak grew over the years. However, when Apurva shifted to Karnataka for her medical studies last year, she decided to end the relationship.Sarthak committed suicide by hanging himself at Gorewadi in Osmanabad.

AURANGABAD: A 21-year-old youth was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing to death a 20-year-old female medical student at her residence in the upscale Vishalnagar locality of Latur, around 275km from here, a day earlier.Police said the youth, Amar Vyankatrao Shinde , was upset with the woman, Apurva Anant Yadav, for having severed her relationship with his best friend, Sarthak Balasaheb Jadhav , earlier this year. However, when Apurva shifted to Karnataka for her medical studies last year, she decided to end the relationship.Sarthak committed suicide by hanging himself at Gorewadi in Osmanabad. He had left behind a suicide note in the form of a video message, blaming Apurva for breaking the relationship which he said was forcing him to take the extreme step. On July 24, the Doki police in Osmanabad booked Apurva on the charges of abetment of suicide.Apurva, the only child of her parents, had recently come home to Latur on a vacation. Latur superintendent of police Rajendra Mane told TOI, "Our preliminary probe has revealed that on Tuesday, Amar went to Apurva's house and found her alone. He had tea with her before stabbing her multiple times and slitting her throat. He fled from the house."Mane said that Amar, in a bid to mislead the police, even took away all the mobile phones in the house. The murder came to light later in the evening when Apurva's mother returned home to find her dead. Apurva's father, a pharmacist, was out of town. He lodged a complaint on returning home, in which he suspected Sarthak's family for being behind the murder.However, the police worked on a few angles and rounded up Amar on Wednesday evening. He has confessed to the murder, police said. A local court remanded him in police custody for seven days. "Amar's house is the fourth from Apruva's, due to which nobody suspected his movement in the area," Mane said.
