Aurangabad: Police stations across the city are reviewing the list of top 20 criminals under specific crime heads. The menace of substance abuse is on the rise, and the names of people who under the influence of some of these addictive substances have been found involved in crimes are being recorded under a separate head.An independent record of those supplying banned substances or indulging in their trade, even in indirect manner, is also being kept. Depending on the number of criminal offences registered in each police station, station chiefs have been tasked with preparing exclusive lists of suspects who need to be kept under police attention.Aurangabad commissioner of police Chiranjeev Prasad said the top 20 list is a time-tested practice of the police department for ensuring a check on active criminal elements as also for keeping watch on those possibly making an entry into that list.“After any offence committed using a specific modus operandi, the suspects with a track record of committing such offences are checked. This makes cracking cases easier,” the city police commissioner said.
