Woman PSI nabs 4 robbers after a kilometre’s chase

The accused were brought to the police station and confessed to have robbed the driver of the fuel tnker during preliminary probe. Taking cognizance of the incident, a team led by police sub-inspector Sushila Kharat launched a manhunt for the accused along with two constables. The accused were produced before a court on Saturday which remanded them in custody. No sooner the accused were spotted, they sensed trouble and fled from the scene. The accused brutally assaulted driver Rajesh Landekar before robbing him of his belongings including cash.Minutes after the accused left, the driver found a police team patrolling the area and brought the matter to their notice.

Aurangabad: A woman sub-inspector serving with the city police and four of her subordinates gave a tough chase to a gang of four highway robbers who was nabbed within minutes of robbing the driver of a fuel tanker on the Beed bypass on late Friday.A fuel tanker was on its way to Mumbai from the city when it was waylaid by a group of four robbers in front of a TVS showroom along national highway 211. The accused brutally assaulted driver Rajesh Landekar before robbing him of his belongings including cash.Minutes after the accused left, the driver found a police team patrolling the area and brought the matter to their notice. Taking cognizance of the incident, a team led by police sub-inspector Sushila Kharat launched a manhunt for the accused along with two constables. The team was soon joined by two other constables. No sooner the accused were spotted, they sensed trouble and fled from the scene. However, the robbers ran out of luck as they nabbed a kilometre later.The accused have been identified as Raju Sudhakar Sonawne (31), Vrudheshwar Madhukar Giri (19), Nazir Nizamuddin Shaikh (24) and Sandeep Jaisingh Bartune (27).Senior police officers took cognisance of the woman officer’s courage on Saturday, following which head of Satara police station proposed a reward for the officer and her team.Senior police inspector Premsagar Chandramore told TOI, “The woman officer has shown exemplary courage in nabbing the highway robbers. We suspect the gang’s involvement in several other highway robberies in different parts of the state.”The officer said that soon after nabbing the accused, additional force was rushed to the spot. The accused were brought to the police station and confessed to have robbed the driver of the fuel tnker during preliminary probe. The accused were produced before a court on Saturday which remanded them in custody.
