Cop assaulted for objecting to illegal parking lot

Aurangabad: A police head constable was assaulted by a history sheeter from Gandhi Nagar area after the former objected to the illegal parking being run by the latter in Sunday market area.The suspect was found operating an illegal parking lot and extorting money from those visiting the market. The suspect — identified as Ajaysingh Chawria — created a ruckus by publicly abusing the policeman and getting physical that left the head constable with some bruises and a torn uniform.Later, with the help of a team from Kranti Chowk police station, Chawria was arrested. After the policeman refused to budge, the accused got into a scuffle and ended up tearing the head constable’s uniform.Taking serious cognizance of the incident, senior police officers have asked for gathering all previous criminal records of the accused, for initiating a stringent preventive action against him.Earlier, in May this year, riots had ensued in the same area where assistant commissioner of police Govardhan Kolekar was attacked by rioters with a sharp-edged stone that ruptured his throat. Based on the complaint lodged by the head constable, identified as 51-year-old Gorakhnath Chavan, the accused has been booked under sections 353 (using criminal force to deter a government employee from performing his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The incident took place in the vicinity of Jafar Gate–Gandhi Nagar area when the head constable, deputed with the Old Mondha police chowky, in an attempt to clear the congestion and traffic snarls during the Sunday market reached out to the suspect and asked him to abstain from operating the illegal parking.This objection by the policeman did not go down well with the suspect, who started abusing and threatening the policeman with dire consequences.
