Piling trash at AMC's zone 3 office keeping tax payers away

Though we do get people coming forward to clear their dues, their property tax doesn't amount to a large amount. However, there has been poor recovery in zone 1, 7 and 3.In-charge ward officer Mukund Kulkarni credits the poor tax recovery to the socio-economic status of the communities residing in the zone. Unlike other zone offices, the tent at zone 3 office is being used to park vehicles. This zone is also at the bottom of tax recovery target as compared to its counterparts.Considering its poor financial condition and poor tax recovery, the AMC had announced a week-long tax collection and property regularisation drive from Monday. The drive is aimed at encouraging defaulters of property and water tax to clear their dues.The AMC has also offered 75% discount on the late fee for property tax filing to increase the collection.

AURANGABAD: While the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation AMC ) is hoping good response for it its ongoing recovery of taxes, the civic body is not doing much to invite citizens for paying their dues.The zone 3 ward office at Central Naka is covered with waste and is presenting a scene far from welcoming. This zone is also at the bottom of tax recovery target as compared to its counterparts.Considering its poor financial condition and poor tax recovery, the AMC had announced a week-long tax collection and property regularisation drive from Monday. The drive is aimed at encouraging defaulters of property and water tax to clear their dues.The AMC has also offered 75% discount on the late fee for property tax filing to increase the collection. Over the last five days, the civic body has collected around Rs4 crore towards property tax of which zone 6 has performed the best with around 18% tax recovery.The AMC's drive has registered impressive success in Zones 9 and 4. However, there has been poor recovery in zone 1, 7 and 3.In-charge ward officer Mukund Kulkarni credits the poor tax recovery to the socio-economic status of the communities residing in the zone. "The wards in zone 3 mostly comprise slum areas and congested colonies. Though we do get people coming forward to clear their dues, their property tax doesn't amount to a large amount. While 10 receipts in zone 3 may amount to Rs 5,000, a single receipt in an area like Gulmandi may total to Rs 10,000," he said.Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele, while announcing the drive, had asked the ward officers to ensure that people coming to pay their taxes should be given proper treatment so that they feel encouraged.However, as one enters the zone 3 office, they are welcomed by flies and pungent odour from the collected waste. A tent has been erected on the premises for officials collect tax. Unlike other zone offices, the tent at zone 3 office is being used to park vehicles. And no one is present to guide people on where to pay their dues.
