Diabetic lawyer, friend run 457 km in 7 days

They carried placards to spread the messages they wished to convey to all who greeted them on the way. Aurangabad: Mumbai-based marketing executive Dipesh Gindra (38) and Bombay High Court lawyer Amar Bhatt (45) took seven days and ran 457 km from Mumbai to Jalna, covering Pune, Ahmednagar and Aurangabad districts, to spread the word about Swach Bharat and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao – two initiatives that Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds dear.Bhatt, a diabetic, ran an average of 65 km a day with his friend, passing through drought affected parts of Marathwada, to reach Jalna on Saturday.After starting their run from Chembur on November 10, the duo interacted with people all along their route. The two said their run should ideally be called a ‘cleanathon’ – it was an attempt to take the message of cleanliness to common citizens.Bhatt, who has so far completed more than 10 full marathons, 20 half marathons, both national and international, and even participated in a 72-km ultra-marathon, said, “I want to kill diabetes before it kills me.” The lawyer, diagnosed as a diabetic a couple of years ago, lost his brother to the condition, making him even more concerned about handling the ailment.Jalna based industrialist Anil Goyal arranged a grand reception for the runners as they arrived on Saturday.
