Students, in support of their claim, also produced receipt of fees charged by their colleges.“We were told that the process of filling up examination form has to be completed online and the section of paying fees cannot be left bank,” Navnath Devkate, a law student, said on Saturday.Maharashtra government has declared drought in 151 talukas from 26 districts in the state, including all eight districts of Marathwada. BAMU registrar Sadhna Pande on Saturday said that the university has not received any guidelines from the state higher education department spelling out modalities related to offering fee waiver to the students from the drought-hit areas.“We are awaiting official instructions from the state higher education department about not charging examination fees from students from the drought-affected areas. We know that a GR (government resolution) has been issued but the same has to formally reach us through the laid down channel. Once the instructions reach us, we will quickly offer the benefit to the students,” she said.The state higher education department, on November 3, issued a circular announcing fee waiver in compliance with the GR of the state revenue department issued on October 31. Asked about the issuance of two separate circulars at the level of Bamu regarding fee waiver, Pande said those communications were issued to assure students that the university has endorsed the decision related to fee-waiver.Pande added that the students who had paid examination fees would get refund through their respective colleges.Student activist Nikhil Athawale said the technical issues at the implementation level must be resolved to ensure students from drought-hit areas receive the examination fee waiver.“Students, especially those from rural areas, are in dire need of the fee waiver as the economy in their villages has collapsed due to drought. It has affected the income of parents or guardians of the students,” he said.
