Aurangabad: The infrastructural work and equipment procurement required for the development of Government Cancer Hospital into State Cancer Institute (SCI) was discussed during a meeting held on the hospital premises on Tuesday.Following the meeting, Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Hospital’s Kailash Sharma, who is the advisor for SCI, said the Institute will be ready by the end of year 2020. Early on Tuesday morning, Sharma along with GMCH dean Kanan Yelikar, officer on special duty at Government Cancer Hospital Arvind Gaikwad, representatives from central government agency HSCC SK Bhatnagar and Jainesh Chahal reviewed the status of the work at the hospital.In June 2017, the Centre decided to develop Maharashtra’s State Cancer Institute at the 100-bed Government Cancer Hospital, Aurangabad with a sanction of Rs97 crore. Out of the total amount sanction, the central and the state government are contributing 60 and 40 per cent respectively.“Following the administrative approval by the state government, Rs37crore was released by the Centre for infrastructural development of the hospital. This work will be carried out by central government agency Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation that has been selected through tender,” Sharma said.The Maharashtra government has signed a MoU with HSCC for the project. “Under the sanctioned project, the hospital will get an additional infrastructure of around 8,000sqft,” Chahal said.It has been decided that the HSCC will submit a detailed project report by the first week of January 2019. “The work order will be issued by March and the agency has assured to complete the work within 18 months of issuing the work order,” Sharma informed.Earlier, the work of construction of linac bunker was to be done by the manufacturer of the machine. But during Tuesday’s meeting it was decided to get the work done through HSCC. “I will propose to the government and based on that necessary changes in the contract will be done,” Sharma said.On procurement of the equipment, Gaikwad said it will done through centralised procurement by Haffkine Institute.
