Speaking on the occasion, Pawar said, “The Maratha community getting reservation is something to be celebrated. In the meanwhile, the Muslim community should also get reservation.”The leader threatened to rake up a statewide movement to ensure that the community’s demands are met at the earliest. “By denying reservation to the community, we are preventing a section of society from contributing to the country’s overall development,” said Pawar, who has even floated his own front to take up the issues of the Marathwada region at the state and national level.Leaders belonging to different political outfits came together under the banner of the Janjagran Samiti Maharashtra, to demand reservation for Muslims. “The demand should not be looked upon merely as another demand by a community. It is the right of this deprived community,” said Mohsin Ahmed. He alleged that political parties are abstaining from talking about Muslim reservation as they fear they will be tagged for playing appeasement politics to get votes from the community. The leaders unanimously maintained that the BJP-Sena as well as Congress-NCP should come together to ensure justice to the community, that has been ignored for the past several decades. The leaders categorically demanded reservation for the community in the education sector, so that students do not have to drop education midway and take up work in the unorganized sector due to their poor economic conditions.
