Crime branch nabs gang of bag lifters, recovers Rs 5L

The squad traced two of them and arrested them from their respective homes on Saturday night before bringing them to Aurangabad. The gang struck soon after and immediately disappeared from the spot with the bag, stashed with Rs30 lakh, in broad daylight.PI Sawant said that they left Aurangabad minutes after committing the crime. They kept watch on their target right from the bank in the Waluj industrial estate and were secretly following him. Pushpa’s husband and two others are still out of reach and a massive hunt has been launched for them.

Aurangabad: The crime branch of the city police has nabbed two of the five members of the Thane based gang that has a track record of bag lifting in different states.The gang recently lifted a bag with containing cash of Rs30 lakhs by breaking open the windshield of a parked car, and now have finally been arrested.An amount of Rs5 lakhs was recovered from them. Authorities said that they have been arrested from different places in an offence they committed in front of Bharat Bazar at API Corner in the city limits last month.The arrested accused have been identified as Vinay Rameshwar Rana (24) from Dhokali and Pushpa Samuel Parera (35) of Kalpavruksha Garden Kapurbawadi, both in Thane district. An amount of Rs5 lakh in cash, 10 mobile phones, one car, some ATM cards and passbooks of some banks have been recovered from their possession. Pushpa’s husband and two others are still out of reach and a massive hunt has been launched for them. The duo was granted police custody of five days by a holiday court after they were produced before the judge on Sunday.ACP of the crime branch Nagnath Kode and inspector Madhukar Sawant said that the gang had come all the way from Thane by a hired taxi with three persons in it and the other two came on a motorcycle. They kept watch on their target right from the bank in the Waluj industrial estate and were secretly following him. Their target parked his car in front of a shop in Bharat Bazaar and went inside. The gang struck soon after and immediately disappeared from the spot with the bag, stashed with Rs30 lakh, in broad daylight.PI Sawant said that they left Aurangabad minutes after committing the crime. However, their taxi with yellow strips but without an RTO registration number was caught on the CCTV cameras, first in Mahaveer Chowk and then in Oasis Chowk at Pandharpur. Later, the same taxi was caught on a camera near Nagar, going at a breakneck speed.
