Aurangabad: A video clip showing probationary IPS officer Bhagyashri Navkate, who is currently posted at Beed, making controversial claims about bashing up members of minority community and Dalits has gone viral. The director general of police’s office has sought a detailed report regarding the video.Beed superintendent of police G Sreedhar told TOI, “We have ordered additional superintendent of police to carry out a detailed inquiry and submit a report at the earliest.”He confirmed that the DGP office had sought a report regarding the video clip. He added that the investigation officer has been tasked with recovering the original video clip, sending it for forensic analysis, recording statements of Navkate and all the youths seen in the clip.Navkate did not respond to repeated calls and SMSes on her mobile phone. According to police sources, a man from Majalgaon lodged a written complaint with Beed SP against Navkhate and submitted the video clip.A senior officer privy to the entire episode said during the Maratha reservation related agitations a few months back, a Dalit youth joined the protest in his four-wheeler was assaulted in Majalgaon. Navkate took responsibility of diffusing the situation and she was given a free hand to interacting with Maratha community youths.A senior IPS officer, requesting anonymity, said, “The Beed police’s priority on that day was to prevent friction between Maratha and Dalits from escalating. She was diplomatic while handling youths from the Maratha community. Eventually, there was no agitation or protest against a police officer.”
