2 women arrested for stealing 22 water motors

AURANGABAD: Cidco police nabbed two women thieves for their alleged involvement in stealing water motors from different parts of the city.The gang comprising only women has been active in the city for over a year. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that the absconding woman was reportedly involved in innumerable water motor thefts and has a record of involvement in petty offences including stealing cattle and goats. Police recovered 22 water motors from their houses.Talking about the modus operandi of the gang, an officer privy to the investigation said that armed with an axe, the suspects would step out of their house around 4am. They would cover themselves with a shawl and carry cement bags for passersby to assume them to be ragpickers. The suspect has been identified as Radhabai Raju Chandne from Jadhavwadi.When the woman was detained for questioning, she confessed to have committed a series of motor thefts along with her accomplices.

However, one of its members ran out of luck when a police team spotted her roaming suspiciously between Ambedkar Chowk and Jadhavwadi on early Saturday. The suspect has been identified as Radhabai Raju Chandne from Jadhavwadi.When the woman was detained for questioning, she confessed to have committed a series of motor thefts along with her accomplices. Based on the woman’s confession, Sudarbai Sukhlal Dikle from Dokle, Ambedkar Nagar was rounded up. Police recovered 22 water motors from their houses.Talking about the modus operandi of the gang, an officer privy to the investigation said that armed with an axe, the suspects would step out of their house around 4am. They would cover themselves with a shawl and carry cement bags for passersby to assume them to be ragpickers. Sometimes, they roamed around a colony on the pretext of morning walk.The suspects would be on the prowl for water motors with plastic pipes, cut the pipes, unscrew the motors, put them in the cement bags and walk back home.Police is struggling to connect complaints of motor thefts with the motors recovered from the suspect’s house but in vain. “The problem is that in most cases, people have not reported the theft cases maybe because they do not have bills to support the ownership of the motors,” said the officer.He also informed that preliminary probe has revealed that even male members of their family have some criminal records and the process of gathering their details was underway.Since the rounding up of the suspects, a key woman member of the gang has reportedly gone underground. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that the absconding woman was reportedly involved in innumerable water motor thefts and has a record of involvement in petty offences including stealing cattle and goats.
