Officials and office-bearers of AMC find the water available in the headquarters unfit for drinking and order jars of drinking water. Aurangabad: At a time when the city is grappling with acute water crisis, water tanks installed in the civic administration’s headquarters at Town Hall have been overflowing, leading to loss of gallons of water on a daily basis. The lackadiasical attitude of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation does not end here. This goes on to show the apathy of the civic body which claims that water supply to the city is far less than its requirement and attributes water wastage to residents within the internal distribution network.Former official at Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran Rajendra Holani, who was hired by AMC to increase the capacity of water supply to the city, has appealed to residents to use water judiciously. Almost everyday, the tanks overflow and the water spills onto the lower terrace or directly to the ground through different outlets. “If people use water judiciously, the city’s water problem will be halved,” he said. The tanks installed on the terrace of the main building are enough to meet the water requirements of the office building.

Almost everyday, the tanks overflow and the water spills onto the lower terrace or directly to the ground through different outlets. There is no arrangement to ensure that the water is arrested or put to utilisation. When the issue was brought to the notice of AMC’S security department, which looks after the tank filling, they said that the water was directly supplied from Jubilee Park overhead reservoir. “The tanks get filled during the supply timings. Once they are filled, the staff at the reservoir is informed after who then closes the the ,” said a security personnel. It has also come to the fore that while officials and officebearers are supplied jars of drinking water, other staff members and visitors drink water from the tap.AMC claims that it supplies water fit for drinking but its officials and officebearers including mayor Nandkumar Ghodele, deputy mayor Vijay Autade, house leader Vikas Jain, standing committee chairman Renukadas Vaidya, find it unsafe and order separate jars for themselves and their guests.Activist Rahul Ingle said AMC’s top brass was either being over-indulgent or providing unclean water.
