Latur edu institute pays Rs 1cr for illegal 4-storey bldg

The institution had the permission to raise the structure up to plinth level. However, it constructed the four-storey building without permission and had shifted the junior college (science) to the new premises without following due procedures.Recently, Bhaikatti had approached Latur district collector G Sreekant and the president of the anti-corruption committee regarding the alleged irregularities. The commissioner recently sent a communication to the collector and Bhaikatti informing them about the developments.It said that the Shahu College, taking a cue from the October 2017 government resolution regarding regularization of unauthorized constructions carried out before 2015, had approached the Latur civic body and offered to pay the dues, including the fine to regularize its junior college building.

Aurangabad: An educational organisation, known for its Latur pattern of studies, has paid over Rs 1 crore in charges for constructing a four-storey college building in 2014 without proper permissions.The Rajarshi Shahu College, run by Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, shot into limelight in October 2015 when RTI activist Mallikarjun Bhaikatti was dragged to its premises and brutally assaulted, in full public view.RTI queries by Bhaikatti had revealed unauthorized construction activity in the premises. The institution had the permission to raise the structure up to plinth level. However, it constructed the four-storey building without permission and had shifted the junior college (science) to the new premises without following due procedures.Recently, Bhaikatti had approached Latur district collector G Sreekant and the president of the anti-corruption committee regarding the alleged irregularities. The municipal commissioner said that the civic body staff inspected the building and accordingly, accepted Rs 1,02,48,357 from the institution.On October 30, 2015, alleged Shiv Sena activists had called Bhaikatti out of his home, assaulted and dragged him to the college premises where they had allegedly beaten him up brutally and blackened his face in full view of about 2,000 people including students, teachers and residents.The police had subsequently arrested several people, including Sena activists. The case is still pending in the Latur district and sessions court and the police have provided round-the-clock security to Bhaikatti since then.
