National conference on crop improvement from Thursday

Aurangabad: The city will host a national conference on the theme: Crop improvement for 21st Century’ from Thursday that will see participation of people from across the country.The two-day event has been organised by the Foundation for Advanced Training in Plant Breeding (ATPBR) in association with Mahatma Gandhi Mission (MGM) and Chamber of Marathawada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA).V Prabhu, chairperson of protection of plant varieties and farmers’ rights authority of ministry of agriculture and vice-chancellor of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (Rahuri) KP Ciswanatha along with top-brass of different seed companies are among the people who will be addressing the participants at the mega event.Conference secretary Aparna Tiwari said the event would witness opinion makers from the seed industry, academic institutions, regulators, policy experts and Government Officials coming on the same platform.“The conference will have meaningful discussion and deliberations on various issues related to the crop improvement and will set an actionable agenda for the various stakeholders and also provide specific recommendation on policy directions,” she said.Tiwari added that the ATPBR was a non-profit organization that primarily aims to strengthen plant breeding capacity.
