Through laparoscopic procedure all vital structures like kidney, spleen, pancreas and large bowel were saved and diaphragmatic defect was repaired by reinforcing large mesh.“A total of 5cm incision made on the patient and she has not complained of any pain after the surgery.

However, if she would have been operated by open technique exploring abdomen and chest patient, the post-operative recovery may have been painful and slow.“In the open surgery, 15 to 20cm long incision is required and the muscle and ribs have to be cut. This requires 50-60 stiches and after the surgery the patient avoids complete lung expansion due to heavy pain. This could lead to respiratory issues and lung infection. So, we decided to go for laparoscopic surgery,” Rathod said.The team of doctors, including Jagdish Kandi, Dinesh Lahire, Sunil Murke and Bhavaniprasad Kalagani, conducted the surgery in 3 hours.
