AURANGABAD: Two days after a woman delivered a baby on the stairs of Government Medical College and Hospital ( GMCH ) owing to lack of stretchers and non-functional lift, BJP MLA Atul Save conducted a spot inspection.He also said 10 stretchers will be immediately procured and provided to the hospital from the MLA fund.Save also blamed the state government, saying that the proposal to hire class IV staff is pending since long.On Tuesday, a woman in labour reached GMCH for delivery. However, in absence of stretchers and non-functional lift, the woman along with her family first tried to climb the stairs. The woman eventually delivered the baby while standing in the corridor of the casualty building. The baby dropped on the floor and was declared dead soon after.The incident has once again brought to light the poor services at the district’s sole government-run tertiary care hospital. MIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel had visited the hospital on Wednesday and took a review of the incident.Save, who is also the president of visitors’ committee of the hospital, reached GMCH on Thursday and visited the spot where the delivery had occurred and reviewed the lift operations. He was accompanied with GMCH dean Kanan Yelikar and members of hospital administration.
