ISIS module: 1 more arrested from Mumbra

Aurangabad: Working on the leads extracted from the suspects arrested on the charges of being inspired by ISIS and planning mass scale terror attacks in the country, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested another 24-year old suspect from Mumbra in Thane on Saturday.The arrested accused has been identified as Talha alias Abubakr Haneef Potrikar, who is pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Business Management and was employed with a private company. The ATS team has seized Talha’s electronic gadgets including his laptop, tablet, hard disc, pen drives, router, some mobile phones as well as some diaries during the house search, which lasted for a couple of hours. The 17-year old minor has been remanded to an observation home.

Aurangabad: Working on the leads extracted from the suspects arrested on the charges of being inspired by ISIS and planning mass scale terror attacks in the country, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested another 24-year old suspect from Mumbra in Thane on Saturday.The arrested accused has been identified as Talha alias Abubakr Haneef Potrikar, who is pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Business Management and was employed with a private company. He, along with his mother, reside in a posh apartment, from where he has been rounded up by the ATS team.The suspect is the tenth accused, including a minor, to be rounded up by the ATS. The 17-year old minor has been remanded to an observation home. The first set of arrests in this case were made on January 22. Talha was brought to Aurangabad by the ATS team on Sunday morning, before producing him in front of the special ATS court, which remanded him to 10 days of ATS custody, ending on February 5. All the accused have been charged with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 120 B for criminal conspiracy and sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Maharashtra Police Act.Additional district government pleader Satish Mundhwadkar said, “The ATS had demanded 14 days custody, while the court has granted 10 days custody to the accused.” The earlier arrested eight accused have been remanded to 14 days custody, ending on February 5. A senior ATS official said, “The probe has so far revealed that Talha had participated in the meetings of the core members of this suspected group and was well aware of their plans.”The accused’s name first surfaced two days ago, following which the information was cross-checked for its authenticity before being shared with the ATS headquarter, when the decision to arrest him was taken. The ATS team has seized Talha’s electronic gadgets including his laptop, tablet, hard disc, pen drives, router, some mobile phones as well as some diaries during the house search, which lasted for a couple of hours. Sources said that currently, the accused are being interrogated about their source of funding, the specific role that each of the members had been assigned and so on.In the meanwhile, the ATS team had taken Mohsin Khan, a key suspect in the case, to his residence in Ahebab Colony, to carry out a further probe and search his house. However, nothing could be confirmed about the seizures, if any were made from his house.
