Through the new technology of ultrasonography machines, this cost is reduced by nearly a fourth,” said Sheikh Iqbal Minne. The experts also said that the new generation of ultrasonography machines are readily available and can be effectively used through the prescribed techniques. However, new equipment and techniques to conduct the ultrasonography of tendons, joints and bones has now been developed. An MRI machine costs around Rs4 to 8 crore and subsequently for each scan, the patient involved has to pay at least Rs4,000 to 5,000. It will also help reduce the total number of surgeries required for such issues.“Currently, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan is used to conduct the imaging of the bones, joints and muscles. “All the layers of the skin are visible through this newly developed type of scan and therapy such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), in which platelets are derived from the blood and injected into the diseased joints as well as for injecting pain relievers,” said Minne.Organizing secretary Prasanna Mishrikotkar, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society President Bipin Shah, vice-president Nidhi Bhatnagar, secretary Mohit Shah and MGM deputy dean Pravin Suryawanshi worked towards organizing the programme.
