GB clears Rs 596 crore development plan for Satara Deolai

AURANGABAD: The general body of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) approved detailed project reports (DPRs) for the sewage and water pipeline at Satara-Deolai worth Rs595.9 crore on Tuesday evening. The treatment of the sewage will be done at the existing 131 MLD STP at Kanchanwadi. Sameer Joshi from the firm gave a presentation of the DPR, which will now be sent to the state government for its approval. 80% of the expenses are to be borne by the state government under its resolution dated March 27, 2012, which has provisions for special financial assistance for newly-added areas in municipal bodies.

The DPR suggests that a separate water pipeline be laid for Satara Deolai from Jayakwadi.Private company Yash Innovative Solutions has prepared the DPR for the AMC. Sameer Joshi from the firm gave a presentation of the DPR, which will now be sent to the state government for its approval. 80% of the expenses are to be borne by the state government under its resolution dated March 27, 2012, which has provisions for special financial assistance for newly-added areas in municipal bodies. The remaining 20% of the expenditure will be borne by the municipal corporation, suggests the DPR.Until August 2014, Satara and Deolai were in the Gram Panchayat jurisdiction but after that they were combined and were taken under the Nagar Parishad. The areas were included under the AMC on February 26 as two election wards (114 and 115).In 2013, Cidco had included the areas of the 26 villages which were to be developed under the fringe area development plan. Satara-Deolai together comprised of division number 5 under this plan.The areas, which together have a population of more than 50,577 people according to the 2011 census, are spread over 33.17 sq, kms and lack basic civic amenities such as water, drainage and roads. The DPR states that the area will need 33.21 million litres of water a day (MLD) for sustenance and this will create sewage of 27.96 MLD by 2021.According to the AMC’s plan, a 41.5km long water pipeline (1,400mm) from Jayakwadi to the Sai Temple will be laid and three pump stations of 140 horsepower will be installed.The plan outlines a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) of 72 MLD capacity at the Sai Temple in Satara, five elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs) for Satara and four for Deolai, a 21-km-long pipeline (300 to 900mm) from the WTP to the ESRs and a 299km-long distribution network. The cost of this project has been estimated at Rs415.73 crore.For the underground drainage project, a 283km-long collection system, two pumping stations, with one each at Hari Om Nagar and Mhada Colony, 15,250 drainage chambers for 30,400 properties and 1,000 manholes will be built. The treatment of the sewage will be done at the existing 131 MLD STP at Kanchanwadi. The project cost is estimated to be Rs180.16 crores.
