AURANGABAD: All institutions of higher learning will have to complete the All India Survey on Higher Education ( AISHE ) for the year 2019-20 by the end of this month.Started by the ministry of human resources development in 2010-11, the survey provides consolidated data of the education sector to different stakeholders and policy makers. The consolidated data helps policy makers in calculating crucial indicators of educational development such as Institution Density, Gross Enrolment Ratio, Pupil-teacher ratio and Gender Parity,” a senior official from the higher and technical education department said.Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu), having has jurisdiction over four districts of Marathwada, has more than 410 affiliated colleges that need to complete the national survey before the stipulated deadline.“The AISHE is an annual exercise, which almost all colleges are aware of. We hope that the survey gets cent per cent response from affiliated colleges,” a BAMU official said.It should be noted that the 12th Five Year Plan had categorically highlighted the need for a strong current and comprehensive data for evidence-based policy making and effective planning, and the plan document also took note of the AISHE initiated by the MHRD, indicating that it can provide useful insights and can be the first step towards creating a comprehensive higher education data management system.
