20 big encroachments razed along Beed bypass

Aurangabad: The local civic body on Tuesday intensified its drive against illegal structures on Beed bypass with some of the big encroachments , especially wedding lawns and halls, started getting razed The anti-encroachment squad removed around 20 major illegal constructions, besides other unauthorised structures, during the day-long drive, which had started on March 11.Prabhakar Pathak, designated officer with the anti-encroachment department of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said some multi-storey constructions were being demolished from inside first in order to avoid any mishap. He added that the crackdown would continue till the bypass becomes free of all illegal structures.Meanwhile, the pending proposal of widening the bypass could get a push.Aurangabad divisional commissioner Sunil Kendrekar on Monday held a special review meeting during which he followed up the issue with state-level authorities.

As per the proposal charted out by Public Works Department (PWD), the existing four-lane bypass will be expanded to seven lanes at the financial outlay of around Rs 150 crore.A proposal to this effect has been already sent to the government last year and was expected to get cleared during the recently held budget session of the state legislature.During the review meeting chaired by Kendrekar, it was also decided that the PWD will take up the responsibility of constructing the service road for Beed bypass.
