Marijuana worth ₹27L seized from Beed

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Marijuana weighing over 554kgs was seized at a farm in a remote village in Kej, making it one of the largest seizures of marijuana in the district. The farmer growing the banned substance, Sambhaji Karad, was yielding the plants in a farm situated in Ghogasgargaon of Shirur tehsil of Beed district, revealed Kej divisions assistant superintendent of police Pankaj Kumawat. The seized marijuana is estimated to have a market valuation of Rs27.3 lakh. We suspect the farmer to be part of a larger group of suspects, who have been into growing, processing, trading and supplying marijuana in Beed and in neighbouring districts, said Kumawat. Upon investigation, the farmer revealed names of the people who supplied him seeds for planting marijuana. Chaklamba police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused and arrested him.
