51 power theft cases settled in Lok Adalat

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A total of 51 power theft cases were settled in the Lok Adalat organised recently by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).The Lok Adalat was at the district and sessions court of Aurangabad and Vaijapur in order to settle the pending cases of power theft and resolve disputes through mediation.A total of 51 consumers from Aurangabad district benefited from the Lok Adalat. The mediation resulted in consumers paying Rs 8.8 lakh towards the state power utility, the MSEDCL said in an official release. While the electricity theft cases were filed by the state power utility under section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, no amicable solution was reached in these cases until mediation through Lok Adalat took place. As per the Electricity Act, 2003, the power theft is punishable with imprisonment for a term that may extend to three years or a fine, or both. Consumers are requested to refrain from drawing power in an illegal manner which is dangerous to human lives, MSEDCL authorities said. The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by principal district Judge Vibha Ingle in the presence of the secretary of District Legal Service Authority VP Phadnis, district judges DH Keluskar and NM Jamadar.We also published the following articles recentlyNational Lok Adalat: 18 cases settledThe Madurai bench of Madras high court held a national Lok Adalat, where 18 cases were settled out of 456 taken up, with a total compensation of 4.41 crore. Additionally, on the Madurai district court campus, 11,538 cases were settled out of 11,716 taken up, including 179 motor accident cases, with a total compensation of 28.23 crore.National Lok Adalat: 14,840 cases settledA total of 14,840 cases were settled during 48 sessions of the National Lok Adalat in Dakshina Kannada district, with a settlement amount of Rs 17.9 crore. The adalat handled various cases including public pre-litigation, cheque bounce cases, bank cases, motor vehicle accident compensation litigation cases, civil cases, property division cases, and other negotiable cases. In Udupi, Universal Sompo General Insurance agreed to pay Rs 91 lakh as compensation to the family members of an accident victim. Additionally, an elderly couple who were having differences were successfully reunited.Lok Adalats settle `340cr across stateOver 3.8 lakh cases were addressed in Lok Adalats organized by the West Bengal State Legal Services Authority (WBSLSA). The settlement amount for these cases exceeded Rs 340 crore. Different court complexes across the state had benches operating, with the highest number of benches in Alipore court. The settlement amount included bank-related matters, motor accident claims cases, and land acquisition cases.
