Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A week-old white tiger cub, born to tigress Arpita at the Siddharth Garden and Zoo, died in the early hours of September 13, revealed the zoo authorities in a press statement. The cub, born on September 7, was relatively weaker when compared to its two other siblings. The cub was unable to suckle on its mothers teats, and was fed goats milk using a feeding bottle, the authorities said.On September 12, the cub developed a swelling near its navel. Despite offering the best possible treatment, the cub could not be saved, authorities added. The last rites were performed after the cubs postmortem. Aprita and her two surviving cubs were said to be in good health. The incident has fuelled demand for a full-time director at the zoo. According to Central Zoo Authority of India (CZA), Siddharth Garden and Zoo has not had a full-time director in the past three years despite being the only such establishment in the Marathwada region.Currently, the garden superintendent of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC), Vijay Patil, is holding the additional charge as director of the zoo. Honorary wildlife warden for Aurangabad district, Kishor Pathak, said that a full-time director is a necessity to ensure that the facility is properly supervised. He added, Even if the death of white tiger cub cannot be directly linked with the absence of the director, the post should not be kept vacant for such a long period. A full-time director can only ensure proper upkeep of zoo and the well-being of different creatures housed in it.Top officials from CSMC were not available for comments on the issue. We also published the following articles recently2 tiger cubs die in buffer area of Ranthambore reserve in 3 daysTwo three-month-old tiger cubs have died in the buffer area of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Jaipur within three days.
