Indian porcupine rescued from factory unit

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: An Indian porcupine, which had made one industrial unit in the Shendra industrial area its home, was rescued by experts and released into the wild recently.When some underground cables of the firm were damaged, the presence of a porcupine was suspected. Few characteristic quills of the creature were found on the industrial premises.A rescue team, led by Nitesh Jadhav, reached the industrial unit to find and rescue the creature.The Indian porcupine was hiding in a burrow. It tried to escape the place when members of the rescue team approached it. The wild creature was finally caught using a cage, he said.Honorary wildlife warden for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kishor Pathak, said the rescued Indian porcupine was given first aid and kept under observation before it was released into the wild on November 17.Indian porcupines can grow up to 70–90 cm long and weigh over 35 kg. The unique creature is known for its characteristic short white spines, located on blackContrary to common belief, Indian porcupine is herbivorous and feeds on fruits, vegetables, roots, grains, mangoes, potatoes, onions, bananas, corn, and branches.
