Special squads formed for power disconnection

"The special squads will strengthen power disconnection drive, which is being implemented on priority basis as one of the measures for improving recovery towards electricity bills. Aurangabad: The MSEDCL has formed six special squads to carry out power disconnection of defaulters and to expose electricity thefts in the city.The move has taken place in the wake of mounting electricity dues towards a section of consumers as well as fresh detection of power thefts using remote control and other new techniques. The registration can be also done using official Mobile App of the state power utility or by logging on to the official website www.mahadiscom.in, it was said. "In a fresh drive, MSEDCL has registered as many as 95 cases of power thefts and other separate 111 cases of meter-tampering in Shahaganj area of the city," Ganeshkar said.The power utility has been bringing municipal councils from the region on radar, who owe hefty dues towards power consumption for street lights. Consumers can register their mobile numbers through MSEDCL call centre by dialing toll-free number 1800-200-3435/1800-233-3435/1920.

These teams are also enabled with expertise to detect power thefts using newer and unheard methods," MSEDCL chief engineer for Aurangabad zone, Suresh Ganeshkar said on Tuesday.Each squad, which is to be headed by senior power utility official, will have three to four technical staffers from different sections such as meter-testing, filtering and quality control."In a fresh drive, MSEDCL has registered as many as 95 cases of power thefts and other separate 111 cases of meter-tampering in Shahaganj area of the city," Ganeshkar said.The power utility has been bringing municipal councils from the region on radar, who owe hefty dues towards power consumption for street lights."We have a total of 32 municipal councils in our jurisdiction, which together owes Rs 25.24 crore. These local self-governing bodies have been requested to pay their dues to avoid any harsh action," Ganeshkar said.Referring to recent cases of tampering with the electricity meter using remote-control, authorities said that the action has resulted in saving of a minimum Rs 21,000 per day towards power theft.The feeder from concerned Jaswantpura area has been showing a decline in electricity consumption by a whopping 400 KV. The total consumption has gone down by 3,840 units in the locality, it was said.Meanwhile, 288 grievances were resolved on the spot during periodic consumer meet held on Monday. The Aurangabad zone had received a total of 431 complaints during the meet, of which 143 have been referred to different departments for necessary action.Authorities have also appealed consumers to use online mode of bill payment. Out of 7,78,384 consumers from the zone, only around 10.46% have been using the online platform, it was said.Power utility has also appealed consumers to register their mobile number for availing multiple benefits. Consumers can register their mobile numbers through MSEDCL call centre by dialing toll-free number 1800-200-3435/1800-233-3435/1920. The registration can be also done using official Mobile App of the state power utility or by logging on to the official website www.mahadiscom.in, it was said.
