SC asks govt to include NEET syllabus in Urdu

Since no measures have been taken till date, a feeling of uncertainty and restlessness is seen among students. Aurangabad: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the centre to include Urdu as a language in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- UG (NEET) exam, the common test for admission into medical courses, from academic session 2017-18.The stakeholders have also demanded the syllabus in Urdu at the earliest.A memorandum to this effect has been already submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) in May. In the meanwhile, an advocacy group —Jan Jagran Samiti has sought an intervention from the state level authorities as no desired steps have been taken.The advocacy group president, Mohsin Ahmed said, "We have written to the MHRD as well as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare requesting them to provide the NEET syllabus in Urdu as soon as possible. ""We are now demanding the state education department to follow up in the issue with the Central agencies," he added.While the schedule for NEET 2018-19 is yet to be announced, Jan Jagran Samiti has started making necessary arrangements.The Students Islamic Organization (SIO) which has a strong base in the city had knocked the doors of the apex court, demanding NEET in Urdu language.According to the SIO, as per the latest census report Urdu ranks sixth in terms of number of people speaking a language.The state alone is said to have nearly 168 junior colleges and over 12,000 students in 10+2 level in Urdu medium, the organisation claimed.
