Aurangabad records 53mm rainfall in 2 hours

The dam, which was filled to nearly 89% of live storage by 6pm on Wednesday, was receiving inflows at the speed of 41,376 Cusec till late evening. The authorities have already cautioned that the swelled dam could witness release of water at any moment due to increased live storage. According to irrigation department authorities, the dam has witnessed increase in inflows from Nandur-Madhameshwar Weir (10,000 Cusec) and Nagamthan River Gauging Station (18,930 Cusec) by 7pm. The maximum temperature was below normal by 1.8 degrees celsius, while minimum was higher by 0.5 degree celsius.Jayakwadi major irrigation project witnessed marked increase in inflows due to release of water from upstream areas as well rainfall in catchment areas. Rescue teams also saved a girl from drowning after she fell in nullah near Mukundwadi area.Noor Colony, Jai Bhavani Nagar, Mukundwadi and Dalalwadi were among the areas where gushing rainwater entered into houses.

AURANGABAD: Fire brigade staffers were on toes as the city and its outskirts received another spell of incessant rainfall for two hours on Wednesday evening.Already overcast conditions became denser by around 4pm and resulted in heavy downpour in many areas for around two hours, inundating the low-lying areas and other vulnerable localities of Aurangabad.Fire brigade authorities said that till 8pm they received around 26 calls related to rainwater entering into houses and falling of of trees . Rescue teams also saved a girl from drowning after she fell in nullah near Mukundwadi area.Noor Colony, Jai Bhavani Nagar, Mukundwadi and Dalalwadi were among the areas where gushing rainwater entered into houses. The affected families used buckets and water-pumps to drain out water with help of other residents and fire brigade officials.As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory at Chikalthana, city received around 53 mm rainfall till 8.30pm on Wednesday.Pertinently, in a similar quick thrashing, parts of Aurangabad recording around 65mm rainfall due to heavy showers on September 15 and September 13.The met department has predicted similar rains during next 72-hours. As per met department forecast, Aurangabad is expected to witness generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain for the next few days.The city registered a maximum of 29.4 degrees celsius and minimum of 21.4 degrees celsius temperature on Wednesday.
