Four months on, no salary for DRDA employees

Bareilly: Not getting salaries for the past four months, as many as 22 employees of the district rural development authority (DRDA) have opposed the move by tying black ribbons to work for the past several days. The UP government is yet to grant funds for release of their salaries from the treasury office. Project director of DRDA, Virendra Kumar, said it has been several years since they have not been getting salaries on time and the situation is same across the state. DRDA employees were given the status of government servant in July 2016.“It has been very difficult to make ends meet. Many of us live in rented accommodations and have been forced to borrow money,” said an employee, on anonymity.Virendra Kumar, said, “DRDA comes under the Indian Societies Registration Act. But our staff here has been given the status of state government employees. Funds for various schemes as well as other expenditures including salary of employees come from the Centre and state government in 60:40 ratio.”The principal secretary of rural development department, Anurag Shrivastava, said, “We have been trying to streamline the situation and pay salaries on time. We should be able to pay salaries before Holi.”
