Shahjahanpur: It took a 14-year-old rape survivor and her father to the CM’s “janta durbar” in Lucknow in order to make the Lakhimpur Kheri police to lodge an FIR in the matter.According to sources, the minor survivor and her father came to the CM’s “janta darbar” in Lucknow on Monday after they failed to register an FIR at the local police station in Lakhimpur Kheri district. They shared their grievances with the authorities through their application.It was then that complainants were directed to Nighasan police station by superintendent of police S Chinnapa and the FIR was lodged under IPC section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Monday night.The minor was raped allegedly by a youth in a village of Lakhimpur Kheri district on February 5. She approached the station officer Ajay Yadav and the circle officer of the area to lodge her complaint. However, local refused to do so. The girl was not even sent for a medical examination, which is mandatory at that time.She was sent for a medical test on Tuesday.Although the survivor named the accused, he is yet to be arrested. Her father alleged that a few local politicians were trying to force him to reach a compromise in the case.According to the teenaged survivor, she was raped allegedly by a local, Dheeraj Kumar, when she went towards a cane field after having dinner in a ceremony on February 5. After escaping from the accused, the girl told her father about her ordeal. The duo approached police but their complaint was not registered.When TOI asked Ajay Yadav about the delay in filing the FIR in this case, he said police were not convinced with the rape story. “It was a ‘suspected’ case and the survivor’s family were in talks with the family of the accused through their community leaders. The accused and the survivor belong to the same community and we didn’t want to book someone unnecessarily. We have sent the girl for medical test and the reports are awaited. The accused will be arrested once the allegations of rape are found to be true.”
