Bomb hoax in train: Man held for spreading rumour

Shahjahanpur: Government railway police (GRP) has arrested a person for spreading rumour about presence of bomb in Howrah-Amritsar Mail on Tuesday night. During interrogation, they told police that they boarded the train from Hardoi and were on their way to Ambala. It triggered panic at Shahjahanpur railway station and all trains passing through Shahjahanpur were stopped to ensure safety and security of the passengers.The information, however, came across as a hoax and passengers had to face huge inconvenience for over two hours. The train, however, departed from Shahjahanpur railway station at 10.15 pm after the railway and district administrations were convinced that there was no bomb in the train.The person, who gave the information about the bomb was taken into custody and rest were released. The third coach from the engine was immediately vacated and the entire coach was thoroughly searched with the help of a sniffer dog.

During the panic situation, someone pick pocketed a passenger travelling from Lucknow to Amritsar in the same coach, police said.According to police sources, the train was about to arrive at Shahjahanpur railway station at around 8.23 pm when a youth jumped from the running train and shouted that two persons in the general coach were planning to blast the coach with a bomb. This information was immediately shared with GRP and RPF. The third coach from the engine was immediately vacated and the entire coach was thoroughly searched with the help of a sniffer dog. The district administration was also alerted after the information about the bomb and city magistrate with local police, arrived at the railway station.It was learnt that two passengers were playing video games on their laptops and apparently discussing about bomb attacks related to the video games. The man misinterpreted the discussion and thought they were discussing about blasting the train, said a police official.Police took both the suspects in their custody along with their laptop but nothing suspicious was recovered from them. During interrogation, they told police that they boarded the train from Hardoi and were on their way to Ambala. He has been identified as Vipin Kumar, a resident of Bihar. He was booked by GRP under sections 145 railway act (commits any nuisance), 174 railway act (obstructing running of train, etc), 511(punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the IPC. Kumar was sent to district jail of Shahjahanpur and his family was informed about him.GRP station officer Radhe Shyam Rao told TOI, “The person who shared the information about the bomb was booked under the relevant sections and has been sent to jail on Wednesday.”
