Bareilly: A man who allegedly created a fake profile on a matrimonial site pretending to be a retired major in the Army was arrested by police on Tuesday night when he came to Bareilly for his engagement ceremony with a Bareilly-based girl.After the marriage of Vineeta Rani, 32, and Ramveer Singh Choudhary, 50, was fixed, the girl’s family learnt that he had given false information on the matrimonial site and was already married and had four children. The accused was a naik in the Army and had taken voluntarily retirement. The girl’s gamily called Singh to Bareilly for the engagement and gave a complaint to police. When Singh arrived at the house of Rani, police arrested him.Vineeta’s elder brother Ankush Kumar said, “Ramveer who came alone to our home on April 12 met my sister Vineeta and fixed engagement on April 17 and wedding on April 20. He told us that he took voluntarily retirement at the post of major in the Army and was a Kargil War hero. He claimed that he was running his own soldiers’ training centre in Aligarh and had some branches in Himachal Pradesh.”Ankush further said, “I had a doubt when he claimed that he will come alone to Bareilly for his engagement ceremony. He told us that the wedding would take place at a five star hotel in Agra. I noted down his car number and when I searched, it turned out to be fake. On April 17, I informed police.”A police officer said, “Ramveer is a native of Nagla Sahsu village in Mathura. He was in the Army from 1984 to 2004 as a naik. He married Veermati Devi of Raishish village, Rajasthan, in 1977 and they have two sons and two daughters. He created a fake matrimonial profile in 2012.”Subhashnagar station house officer Sanjeev Kumar said, “Following the complaint, we have lodged an FIR against Ramveer under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 495 (same offence with concealment of former marriage from person with whom subsequent marriage is contracted), and 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) of IPC. He has been sent to jail. We have also seized Rs 60,000, two cell phones, two gold rings, a car and a licenced pistol from him.”
