Bareilly: After clearing encroachments on the Shahdana-Eit Pajaya stretch during a week-long drive, the Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now planning to undertake the task of widening the road. Besides, tiled-footpaths will also be laid down on both sides of the road. The project is likely to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 75 lakh.According to BMC officials, the road will be made six-metre wide — three metres on both sides — and a divider will also be erected. Soon, the proposal would be sent to the state government for approval, said officials.Speaking with TOI, municipal commissioner R K Shrivastava said, “The stretch was full of encroachments by hawkers and road-side eateries. Besides, with the construction of Shyamganj flyover, the traffic has further increased on this stretch.”Last week, BMC’s anti-encroachment wing led by Jaipal Patel had demolished around 15 residential buildings and kirana stores that had come up illegally.
