Despite order of DGP, Bareilly police has not taken help of the STF for technical aspects. The family of the deceased alleged that police had not been able to complete investigation in two years. DGP had also asked SSP to regularly monitor the investigation.“It has been almost two years but police are yet to complete the investigation. Sharma’s wife was against their relationship while my estranged sister and brother-in-law had dispute with us over property. We have almost completed the probe and a couple of things like CDR is in process.

Bareilly: An 84-year-old woman along with of members of Bareilly Bar Council and Mahila Jagriti Manch sat on a hunger strike at SSP office here to demand speedy investigation of the murder of her daughter, Sadhana Sharma, who was district government counsel (criminal) in Badaun. The family of the deceased alleged that police had not been able to complete investigation in two years. They called off the hunger strike after SSP Jogendra Kumar assured them that police would soon file a chargesheet against all 11 accused.According to the victim’s sister Viparna, on May 23, 2016, Sadhana (55) along with her domestic help was on way to court from Ujhani to Badaun when a car allegedly hit her scooty and ran over her. “Our help who was then undergoing treatment told us that it was not accident but murder. PC Sharma, a local politician, was in a relationship with my sister and hence, we had faith in him and lodged an FIR at his behest against a few persons. However, we later learnt that Sharma, his wife Kamlesh, my estranged sister and brother-in-law Shravan and Shraddha Gupta, along with their aides had killed my sister.“My sister had transferred Rs 70 lakh in Sharma’s account and had been demanding her money back. Sharma’s wife was against their relationship while my estranged sister and brother-in-law had dispute with us over property. The former investigating officer had taken out call detail record (CDR) of the accused which proved that they were in touch with one another,’’ said Viparana who wrote to director general of police (DGP) last year, alleging that police did not complete a few formalities related to CDR of the accused and raised some other points. The then DGP, Sulkhan Singh, had directed SSP to probe all points raised by Viparana and contact officials of the STF for CDR and other technical aspects. DGP had also asked SSP to regularly monitor the investigation.“It has been almost two years but police are yet to complete the investigation. Despite order of DGP, Bareilly police has not taken help of the STF for technical aspects. We want police to speed up their investigation and arrest all the accused,’’ said Bhagwan Devi, Sadhana’s mother.SSP Jogendra Kumar said, “An FIR was lodged at Ujhani police station of Badaun and investigation was later transferred to Bareilly crime branch. Of the total 11 accused persons, we have sent eight to jail. One person has got a stay on his arrest from the high court while we have announced an award on two other accused persons. We have almost completed the probe and a couple of things like CDR is in process. We will soon file a chargesheet against the 11 accused. There is no carelessness on the part of police. Even the victim’s family had first demanded CB-CID probe but after CB-CID investigation was ordered, they said they are satisfied with Bareilly police and hence, the case was again transferred to us.’’
