Asaram verdict: Survivor, kin’s security to be beefed up

Shahjahanpur: District police has been reviewing the security of the family of the girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by self-styled god-man Asaram ahead of the pronouncement of verdict by justice Madhu Sudan Sharma in Jodhpur on April 25.Additional superintendent of police (city) Dinesh Tripathi told TOI, “We have sought a review report from the local intelligence unit and additional security officials will be deployed on Sunday on the basis of the report.”Tripathi said, “The safety of the survivor’s family is very important to us. He was charged under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.The self-styled god-man is also facing a rape case in Gujarat.Earlier, the apex court had refused to grant bail to Asaram on various grounds in the two sexual assault cases lodged in Rajasthan and Gujarat.Two Surat-based sisters had lodged separate complaints against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, accusing them of rape and illegal confinement, among other charges.
